Arnold History shows that in 1927,
long before a governor could claim to be the namesake, Bob and Bernice Arnold
built an inn and restaurant to serve the lucrative logging industry that had
started to thrive just above the famous Gold Rush country. The inn which was
completed in 1939. This is also the year Highway 4 became a State Highway.
The first neighborhood,
White Pines, was built to house mill workers. Through
time, the town of Arnold grew to serve those who came, and still come, for the
spectacular but quiet sanctuary; the full-time population is currently about the
same as the elevation, 4,200. Now with today’s conveniences and yesterday’s
classic mountain lifestyle, Arnold offers the best of both worlds.
In the mid 1960's with the
development of the Bear Valley recreation areas and several subdivisions
(many with private lakes, pools and recreational facilities), modern-day greater
Arnold began to take shape. Continued growth was resulted in thousands of
primary and secondary homes.
The property we now know as
Lake Mont Pines, was once cattle pasture for the George Avery Family back in the mid
1800's. George Avery sold off 300 acres. The
Raggio
Brothers
operated The Cowell
Creek Mill, eventually the
Manuel Estate Company purchased the mill
and moved it to San Antonio Creek.
The Tanner Brothers, Norman, Norval
& Irvin, owned the property from 1948 until Ken DeMeuse of the
Marc-Land Company purchased the development in the early 1960's.
The Tanner Brothers logged the
area and planted close to 1000 apple trees on the 300 acres. Prior to
their ownership it was known as the Avery & Worley Meadows, adjoining
Meadowmont Subdivision.
